CERAMIC COATING FAQ’S

Our detailing experts answer frequently asked questions about ceramic coatings

is a ceramic coating worth it?

Ceramic coatings can be an excellent investment to protect your vehicle. Sticky residue from tree sap and bird droppings is hard to wash off without damaging the paint. Without a ceramic coating, your car is vulnerable to fading and rusting from sun exposure and seasonal elements. Ceramic coatings help prevent expensive repairs and boost your vehicle’s resale and trade-in value.

The coating is safe for your paint and can be easily removed without harm to your vehicle. The product is backed by a manufacturer warranty for up to 10 years. You can apply ceramic coating to both the interior and exterior surfaces of your vehicle to make cleaning a breeze.

WHAT SHOULD I NOT DO AFTER CERAMIC COATING?

A new ceramic coating application will take about 2-3 weeks to cure to its full strength. During that time, some precautions should be taken. You’ll need to avoid using products that can damage the coating and always stay away from automatic touch-based car washes. Go touchless or choose to wash by hand.

  • Avoid getting the vehicle wet for at least 24 hours.

  • Avoid automated touch-based car washes. Hand washes should use the two-bucket method. The two-bucket method of washing a car is proven to reduce swirl marks and produce the best wash results. Use one bucket for soaking your wash mitt – while the other is used to clean the wash mitt after each section you wash on the car. The ‘rinse’ bucket is filled with clean water, has grit guards, and is used to only rinse the dirt or debris from the wash mitt after each, individual section.

  • Avoid washing your vehicle in direct sunlight - Direct sunlight creates heat, especially on dark vehicles. To ensure you get the best results from your maintenance, make sure you wash the car in a shaded area, outdoors (out of direct sunlight). It’s always best to wash the car when the sun is at its lowest levels, early morning or early evening. This will also help to avoid water spots and streaking.

CAN I DRIVE MY CAR AFTER CERAMIC COATING?

Yes, it’s okay to drive your car starting about 24 hours after application. Avoid any water from touching the surfaces of the vehicle for the first 24 hours after application (sprinklers, rain, car washes, etc.)

does ceramic coating need maintenance?

Maintenance is minimal. We recommend hand washing the vehicle regularly to prevent build-up (every 2-3 weeks.) Make sure you are using the correct products, including non-abrasive cloths. We recommend having a professional certified installer provide a yearly ceramic coating maintenance that includes an exterior wash, decontamination, gloss renewal, and inspection. As long as you do this, you should find that your ceramic coating looks excellent for the long term.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU WASH A CERAMIC-COATED VEHICLE?

There is no set timeline for how often to wash your car when you have a ceramic coating. We recommend hand washing the vehicle regularly to prevent build-up (every 2-3 weeks.) This helps wash away anything that might eat away at the coating.

HOW LONG DOES A CERAMIC COATING LAST?

A ceramic coating is a semi-permanent barrier that can typically last for up to ten years depending on the type of coating applied. Ceramic coatings are usually offered in increments of 2 years, 3 years, 6 years, and 10 years.
